BASIC NOTES FEATURES THE NATURE OF THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

Based on the foregoing discussion, it can be said business environment has the following features:

All the External Forces

The business environment is the total of all things visible to business firms and, as such, is aggregative in nature.
In the other words, we can say that the business environment involves all the forces, institutions, and factors which directly or indirectly affect the business organizations.

Specific and General Forces

The business environment includes both specific and general forces. Specific forces (such as investors, customers, competitors, and suppliers) affect individual enterprises directly and immediately in their day-to-day work. General forces (such as social, political, legal, and technological conditions) have an impression on all business activities and thus may move an own firm only indirectly.
In the same words, the business environment includes specific forces such as investors, customers, competitors, and suppliers. General forces are Social, Legal, Technological, Political, etc. which influence the Business indirectly.

Inter-Relatedness

Different elements or parts of the business environment are closely interrelated. For example, the increased life outlook of people and increased information for health care have increased the demand for many health products and services like diet Coke, fat-free cooking oil, and health resorts. New health products and services have, in turn, changed people’s lifestyles.
We can say in a different way, All the organizations and parts of the Business Environment are interrelated to each other.

Dynamic Nature

The business environment is dynamic in that it keeps on changing whether in terms of technological improvement, shifts in consumer choices, or entry of new opposition in the market.
In a different way, the business environment is highly flexible and keeps changing. It is not inactive or inflexible that is why it is necessary to control and examine the business environment continuously.

Uncertainty

The business environment is largely uncertain as it is very difficult to predict future happenings, especially when environmental changes are taking place too frequently as in the case of information technology or fashion industries.
In the other words, we can say that it is very hard to imagine the changes in the Business Environment. As the environment is changing very fast.

Complexity

Since a business environment consists of numerous interrelated and dynamic conditions or forces that arise from different sources, it becomes difficult to comprehend at once what exactly constitutes a given environment. In other words, the environment is a complex phenomenon that is relatively easier to understand in parts but difficult to grasp in its totality. For example, it may be hard to know the range of relative impression of the social, economic political technological, or legal factors on the change in demand of a product in the market.
In very simple words we can say that it is very difficult to understand the impact of the business environment on the companies. Although it is simple to scan the environment, it is very hard to understand how these changes will impact business decisions. Sometimes the change may be irrelevant but it might have a large impact.

Relativity

The business environment is a related to the concept since it differs from country to country and even region to region.
Political conditions in the USA for instance, differ from those in China or Pakistan. Similarly, demand for sarees may be fairly high in India whereas it may be almost non-existent in France.
The importance of the business environment may change from company to company or country to country.
